What can you do if you’re scared about dental treatment?
The best way to overcome your fear is to discuss your concerns with one of our dentists. Visit us at Drummoyne Dental Practice to talk with our dentists and open up about your fears. We will help you feel as comfortable as possible.
Experiences as a child may become distorted by time and reinforced by outdated media presentation of stereotypes. Much has changed, thanks to technology and education, and our dentists are skilled professionals in dealing with patients who are apprehensive about seeking treatment.
This will obviously be a team approach between you and our dentists. Communication is the key. You must feel comfortable expressing your fears and concerns and have a sense that you are being listened to.
What types of sedation can we offer?
There are various forms of anaesthesia and relaxation that can be used effectively to change your negative thoughts into a positive experience.
"Happy gas", "laughing gas", "relative analgesia", "nitrous oxide" is all the same form of sedation which can be used for patients who are apprehensive of treatment done with local anaesthesia.
We are also able to offer IV sedation at Drummoyne Dental Practice. Be mindful that any sort of dental treatment needs to be planned & booked in advance if you are wanting to have IV sedation. Our dentists are more than happy to discuss all treatment options and plan all steps that need to be taken to hopefully make your phobia a thing of the past.
In some cases, you may elect to have extensive procedures done under full general anaesthesia in a hospital or day centre.
